effects of Brazilian cooperation on gender equality in Mozambique

Abstract

Between 2015 and 2017, the governments of Brazil and Mozambique, supported by UN Women, the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), developed a cooperation project aimed at promoting gender equality, women's economic empowerment and addressing violence against women in both countries. In order to understand the consequences of this project for social development in Mozambique, this paper analyzed the scope and content of the programs for the promotion of gender equality, and evaluated the main results based on indicators developed by the Brazilian Cooperation Agency (ABC). From the analysis, it was possible to conclude that Project “Brazil and Africa” was successful in reaching its main objectives and that cooperation between Brazil and Mozambique can be consolidated as an important tool to build multifaceted and sustainable responses to common problems.
