2018 marks the 120th anniversary of the establishment of relations between Argentina and Japan, which began formally on February 3, 1898 with the signing of the Treaty of Friendship, Commerce and Navigation. From then on, they grew diplomatically, culturally and economically; although it is worth mentioning that the commercial contacts between both nations were and still are underdeveloped. Considering this general scenario, it will be argued that the hierarchy of the link bewteen these two countries during the government of Mauricio Macri only focused on the economic aspects of the relationship, while during the government of Cristina Fernandez the topics dealt with where much more varied. This was due to the different perceptions that both presidents held about Argentina's position on the international scene and about the international system, as well as the different ideological assumptions that shaped the Argentine Foreign Policy.
