Abstract

This paper aims to discuss the type of social studies founded on and developed in the nineteenth century, which still prevail in the academic and research scene; although they were vital from the very beginning, they are limited to address the complex phenomena and systems of the current world. For social studies keep its existence and achieve relevance and impact on reality itself, they must transform themselves and their own scientific status. In this line of thought, one of the fundamental paths is the commitment to generate a break between the gap of theory and practice in modern science and to carry out a scientific revolution oriented towards the sciences of complexity.
