Abstract

The audiovisual industry has been disturbed with the apparition of new global players who benefit on net services which allows free real time transmission known as Over the Top (OTT). The objective of this article is to analyze the effects of the continuous penetration of the platforms that work through this format in the Latin American audiovisual market. The focus will be on the strategies that OTT platforms uses to hoard the markets where these get into, realizing about the impact that these have on the diversity of content that the audience can choose to consume and how this process hits the local audiovisual production. Lastly, emphasis will be made on the necessity to promote a public cultural politic that defines user protection common spaces and promotes the local offer.
