Abstract

Through text and speech, discursive elites foreshadow the image that a large part of people forges themselves of “the others”, with whom on very few occasions they establish contact or real links capable of putting these perceptual schemes into question. This article aims to elucidate the contemporary modalities adopted by the representation of migrants, one of the main targets of alterization or estrangement from which national citizens conceive themselves. To achieve this objective, a group of recent journalistic articles will be analyzed in light of the specific forms that the discursive construction of the figure of migrants has acquired throughout Argentina’s history.
