One year after the death of Carlos Escudé, a prolific Argentine author and protagonist of several theoretical and practical debates on foreign policy, this article, of a strictly theoretical nature, addresses the main criticisms raised by the academic literature to his theory of Peripheral Realism, together with some possible answers to such detractions. It then addresses some personal contributions in order to enhance the descriptive and explanatory power of the theory, emphasizing the concept of double periphery and elaborating on the issue of issue linkage, which leads to the concept of perceived strategic value of peripheral countries.
